2008 GIS Day event will be named “GIS DAY 2008 – Bucharest Green Map”. This event it’s a continuation of the international Green Map project initiated also in Romanian by a non-profit organization named Goodartofnoon along with some others partners including ESRI Romania.
Since this project had a huge success ESRI Romania and Goodartofnoon decided to continue this project with 30 children (16 years old) form 5 highschools. We formed 5 groups of 6 children and each group have a project regarding Bucharest. These five projects are:
- Monitoring and inventory all the natural resources from Cismigiu park and also make a GIS analysis regarding the crowned from Sunday evening. Based on their analysis another team will propose a new structure for a nearby park, Izvor, so at the end Cismigiu will not be so crowded during the Sunday’s.
- Creating a touristic map with the cultural objectives from the central of the Bucharest. A pedestrian map will be created and all the traces will be marked on the map according to the time spend on that trace. At the end all the traces will be marked on the field with paint and in the front of all the objectives will be places signs with the objective description.
- Identifying all the wasted/abandoned areas from one part of Bucharest and propose some new objectives to be created according to the people that live nearby.
- Monitoring the traffic jam in the north part of Bucharest (counting vehicles during the morning), creating graphs and propose new parking places outside Bucharest with the possibility to use existing railways to come into town.
All this projects will be finalised with GIS maps and what it’s very interesting regarding this projects it’s the fact that this will be maps created using GIS analysis. Also this projects, gahter as “GIS DAY 2008 – Bucharest Green Map” will be presented in media (newspapers, television) and each group will have the opportunity to write down a one page article in the newspaper regarding their project.
All this projects will be presented in schools/highschools on November 19. |
